Parent Driver Assessment
People often feel the need to review their driving when their lifestyle or personal circumstances change. A new baby can often make parents, grandparents and other carers look at their responsibilities as a driver in a different light.
The Parent Driver Assessment is a scheme devised by RoSPA (the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) and GEM (the Guild of Experienced Motorists) to provide an easy and low cost way for drivers to receive an objective and professional assessment of their driving skills.
It is not a test. There is no pass or fail. It consists of about an hour's drive in your own car at a time and place to suit you, usually as close to your home as possible. It is relaxed and informal, covering a variety of urban, rural and dual carriageway roads.
The assessor will be a qualified driver of the highest level and will be registered with the RoSPA Advanced Drivers' Association. She or he will give you an honest, objective and completely confidential report on your driving, verbally at the end of the drive and in writing 2 - 3 weeks later. You will also receive a certificate to show that you have taken the assessment.
The Assessment costs just £35, which includes the assessment drive, a full written confidential report and a certificate.
Even if you feel confident as a driver, with the new responsibility of carrying a child, it's always reassuring to be able to prove this to yourself and your loved ones.
